Archana Kapoor is a publisher, filmmaker, author and an activist. She is the publisher of Hardnews magazine, an independent political monthly from India; an independent filmmaker; and Founder of Seeking Modern Applications for Real Transformation (SMART) – a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that works with marginalized communities in India.
Two years ago Mrs. Kapoor launched a community radio station in the impoverished, rural, conservative 
Muslim community of Mewat – 70 kilometers away from New Delhi. Her radio station recently got the National Award under the ‘Sustainability Model’ category announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India in February 2012.
Mrs Kapoor’s community radio station, Radio Mewat, has been featured extensively in both national and internation media for its innovative programs and content. Her radio station has been featured on the channels of the lower and upper house of the Parliament.
Under the leadership and guidance of Archana Kapoor, Radio Mewat has, in just over two years of operation, become a name to reckon with. It has been featured in the journals brought out by UNICEF and UNESCO.
Mrs Kapoor, is an elected member of the governing board of the Community Radio Association, an organisation set up to promote and lobby for the community radio movement .
