Seeking Modern Applications for Real Transformation (SMART) is a non-profit organization registered under the Society's Registration Act, 1860.

SMART aims at using media and communication technologies for developing new paradigms for social transformation and to provide multi- faceted intervention strategies in order to change the quality of life of the target groups, especially women and children.

The Philosophy

SMART believes that poverty has a woman's face, and that literacy, information, and skill development are major tools for inclusive growth and for eradicating poverty, enlarging employment opportunities, advancing gender equality, improving family health, promoting democratic participation and for empowering people.

About Us

SMART comprises of a group of professionals with varied experinece in the fields of media, education, skill training, health and development, who have come together to bring about real transformation in the lives of socially and economically backward communities.

We work towards providing an environment for acquiring knowledge and developing not only the ability to organize and influence the direction of social change but also to help in creating a just and humane social economic order. We are committed to providing alternatives for development in areas which have been deprived of basic facilities like health, education and employment.

Our programs go beyond the basic mechanics of reading and writing. The endeavour is to provide awareness with a view to enhance existing skills and support sustainable growth models for the underprivileged sections to think, act and exercise their choices to their maximum potential.

SMART is an initiative of Archana Kapoor, a social activist, filmmaker, and publisher of Hardnews, a Delhi-based monthly magazine. Believing in literacy as a tool for eradicating poverty, she decided to eduacte women and children to upplift and empower them. Her work in Mewat, Haryana, brought an understanding of the enormity of the problems faced by women and girls in conservative societies. She has tried to leverage her experience of documenting the state of literacy and education in the Muslim-dominated nations of Bangladesh and Indonesia and break the resistance to education visible in the Meo community. She has made over 300 documentaries on social and cultural issues. Archana is the India representative of Women without Borders (www.women-without-borders.org), an advocacy, PR and lobbying organisation for women's rights around the globe and SAVE, an international platform for women to fight terror and extremism.
